Al Ain striker Lapa Kodjo skips national team duty to focus on domestic trophies with his club, which leads the league and is in two cup finals.

Al Ain's Kodjo Declines National Team Call-Up

Al Ain's historic striker, Togolese international Laba Kodjo, has declined an invitation to join his national team's training camp in Morocco for international friendlies against Guinea and Niger. This decision coincides with his efforts to regain fitness for the crucial end-of-season phase. Al Ain leads the UAE Pro League with 50 points and has reached the final of the President's Cup for the 17th time and the final of the League Cup for the sixth time. With about three months left on his contract expiring in June, Kodjo dreams of winning the domestic treble, having been absent from the podium for a long time despite winning the AFC Champions League in 2024. He currently tops the league's scoring charts with 19 goals and is fifth on the all-time list with 137 goals. During the last winter transfer window, Kodjo received offers from the Chinese and Turkish leagues but chose to stay with 'The Leader'. Meanwhile, Al Ain has resumed daily training ahead of their next league match against Ajman.
